1957-
The first
satellite, Sputnik was launched into space.
A spacecraft was launched with a dog on bored. The dog didn't survive.
1958-
The first American satellite was put into orbit.
1960-
The Russians launched 2 more dogs into space, and they made it back to Earth, becoming the first 2 living things to survive a trip to space.
1961-
The first human was put into space, Yuri Gagarin
President Kennedy challenged the U.S. to put a man one the moon by 1971
1968-
Apollo 8 was launched and became the first manned spacecraft to orbit the moon.
1969-
Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first people to walk on the moon.
1971-
The moon rover was driven on the moon for the first time.
The Mariner 9 became the first spaceship to orbit another planet.
1973-
The U.S. launched its first space station.
1976-
The Viking 2, an American probe discovered frost water on Mars.
1979-
The probes Voyagers 1 & 2 transmitted images of Jupiter and its moons.
1980-
Voyager 1 reached Saturn and started
transmitting images.
1981-2009-
Many probes were sent out to observe planets and not many things happened.
2010-
President Obama signed legislation to let NASA explore more comets and Mars.
2012-
A private company, Space X restocked the international space station.
